They are used on two nodes only.

In that case the tag should be change to "ice_skates" (documented, used 64 times) instead of the undocumented and ambiguous 'skates' which is mainly used on roads.

And: The xzy_rental keys are almost exclusively used for boats and bicycles. There's the generic xyz:rental syntax that can be used with any vehicle type. car:rental=*

So, I suggest to use
ice_skate:rental.
