Passes were mapped based on the Nepal 1:25K and 1:50K topo sheets from pahar.in. Where ever a trail marked on the topo sheets hits the ridgeline (highest point) [whether on a saddle / peak / anywhere on ridge] is a mountain pass (refer wiki osm mountain_pass definition). Use of some of these trails (and passes) might be discontinued and therefore faded away just like any other trail or pass which was mapped in earlier years. If you verify on the ground that those passes no longer exist then they can be removed. I have explored and mapped hundreds of passes in the Indian Western himalayas through Survey of India maps in a similar manner

Same is mentioned on the Survey of I dia maps

My mistake. Removed natural and added a name tag

Understood Mateusz. Thanks

Which of the 7 paths or 3 routes are you referring to? I mostly added hiking routes on top of existing OSM trails to put a proper hiking network across Nepal

Updated as natural=cave_shelter and removed name

140935756

That's correct Mateusz. Earlier I was unaware that the name tag for simple objects (shelter, cave, spring, campsite...) can be omitted

I got inputs from Dave Brophy who did this traverse. Do you have a whatsapp nr or email ID on which I can share the notes so we can figure out the appropriate SAC rate for the route?

149162496

I received the GPS log from someone else. Will check with him if we can specific the SAC scale for this section.

149162496

That's correct. I extended the existing trail but was unaware that non-applicable tags would be taken forward. Can you help me in splitting the original trail and removing the tags? Not sure how to find the length of the original trail?

140935756

Thanks Mateusz for updating the cave shelter correctly. Will use same tags in future.

Falls / Tree were name tags. Removed the same as I assume names are of little use for these type of objects

140935756

Yes it s a natural cave offering shelter

Noted Mateusz. OSMAnd does display a Name field for any object added so users normally provide a name. Will leave it empty going forward.

Even tough the trail crosses over two main ridgelines (South and West) have kept only one pass as per the Survey maps. Removed the other one

Noted Mateusz. Thanks for the heads up. For other key's like place=* name is mandatory so I assumed...

Moved Kaplas Kund (as per Survey Maps) to alt_name

122005556

Manually verified and copied individual glaciers from vector layer to OSM data layer

Missed to mention GLIMS in the source. Apologies

GLIMS vector data. Imported in JOSM and manually copied and mapped

I have mapped all named (Survey, Olizane) passes in OSM (2500+). Please do not remove these as they are my central repository / reference to plan my ongoing journeys, exploring Survey trails across the same

A mountain pass is mostly - but not necessarily - a saddle Aman. I ve crossed passes which are just high points along ridgelines not corresponding to actual saddles. In this particular case it's probably a way around a steep gorge in the valley below. I crossed several of these especially in Ladakh/Zanskar region
