JOSM makes changes a bit more clear, and if you're not sure what you just did, you can always bring up the undo/redo queue and step backwards and forwards. Also a lot more paint styles available to help visualize what your edit is about to do

Merging the segments completely smashed all the three segments tags together. Wondering if we found a weird edge case problem in id.

Understandable. Not having a population listed at all may be preferable until we can get a public domain or government source just so we don't run into licensing issues with Wikipedia.

Getting pretty good with the geometry! If you're looking to move up to an editor that handles the kinds of edits you're doing a little easier, you might take a look at JOSM.

Oklahoma also has the concept of towns as a seperate incorporated entity. Maybe OKC and Tulsa need something higher than city.

This could probably be a city instead of a town given that's what the state considers it.
