What looks like a right turn lane onto 44 going east is in fact a turn in for the gas station. If you look at the satelite pictures this is confirmed. Cars in this lane have to exit into the station. They cannot continue beyond that entrance. The road narrows again and where 44 turns right there is only one lane going north.
