Thanks for your feedback. I would have tried to do a selected revert like this:

1) Start a fresh JOSM instance
2) File/Download object "way/787078212"
3) Select all nodes
4) Data/Revert changeset "[x] Revert selection only"

This works quite good normally, but no warranty if it had performed here as well.
