For info, the current situation in OSM arose from a discussion in the old forum. I think that the discussion starts roughly at https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/closed-internationale-admingrenzen-2016/74539/403 .

Western Sahara (essentially the piece that people are arguing about) is actually already in OSM as relation/2559126 , This relation relation/5441968 is the territory to some extent controlled by one of the claimants to Western Sahara, Morocco relation/3630439 is the other claimant.
Adding an alt-name to the controlled-by-SADR bit is likely to confuse.

OpenStreetMap is a map of the situation as it is now, not as it was prior to the conflict in 1947/1948. Perhaps OpenHistoricalMAp would be a better place for your edits?
