"one feature, one element principle" applies not just to names, but to the whole element.. If these rivers(your other edits) are already mapped elsewhere, then the whole element should be deleted and not just name tag.
However, you should be mindful of relations, as deleting might break things in non-obvious ways.

On easier rectangular blocks I would draw such areas whatever is "inside" of sidewalks, for example not just buildings, but also include front yards next to public sidewalks.
This tag is documented in more details on landuse=residential

It is not advisable to attach areas to ways unless they are indeed semantically attached.
In this case you attached residential zone to the middle of road ways. That's not wrong per say, but it's also not exactly correct. Additionally, gluing these areas to roads makes it more difficult to edit each one independently.👍

On nyc.gov/BQE it only says "approximately from Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge", but that doesn't feel accurate enough to tag specific road segments...

Rather than outright deleting such a node, it would be used if you utilized lifecycle namespace as documented in osm.wiki/Disused.
Otherwise, you can delete business-specific information and leave it just as an address node. 👍

It would be greatly beneficial if you added actual business names. Just creating a node and tagging it with "accountant" it's too useful in users of OSM data or other mappers who would try to fill in the missing information. Without knowing an address or name there's no way to figure out what's there.👍
