But more practically speaking, I think 99% of situations we'll encounter will be just a single house number. If some biz or a building or whatever takes over multiple house numbers, I imagine 1 will be its primary one and others will either just disappear or might be used for some separate purpose, such as service entrance or something and that can be tagged separately if necessary.

Shouldn't it rather be tagged as crossing:island=* instead of osm.wiki/Tag%3Atraffic_calming%3Disland?

I think it's better to avoid - to indicate range since that's ambiguous with actual addresses that use - as part of their house number, such as commonly found in Queens and certain parts of Brooklyn.
I think it's better to explicitly list the addresses with ; or , rather than use - for range.

Please do not map sidewalks as a single loop around the whole block. Please split them at each corner as appropriate. Just like you don't map roads as a single loop around the whole block, so shouldn't do that with sidewalks.
Properly splitting them allows independent tagging of each sidewalk's situation without affecting the unrelated streets.

Since in US there’s no official regulatory body managing hotel star ratings and each hotel can rate themselves however many stars they want, it serves no purpose other than promotional/advertisement for the hotels.
As such, stars=* should not be used in US and will be deleted.
