And in case that you missed discussion - how else it can be advertised (except posting on talk-us and in #general on slack-us)?

I am asking as it would help in case of a future bot edits, maybe I can reach wider community of mappers.

For start: OSM is not a place to map historic, no longer existing objects.

There are some cases where partially gone, but still present objects are mapped but it is not OK to map things like "all buildings that ever existed" or "all schools that ever existed".

In some cases lifecycle prefixes are used ( osm.wiki/Lifecycle_prefix ) but neither is known to be relevant here.

Note that node/358229380/history was added by import that incorrectly imported objects known to be not existing and later was modified by an undiscussed mass edit in changeset/66743521

Discussions/announcements about this edit are linked in changeset tags

"thus it will not show up on the map" - what is rendered is not a good arbiter of deciding whatever things are mapped correctly, see osm.wiki/Tagging_for_the_renderer

"In some cases these pois are useful even if they no longer exist" - yes, objects that stopped existing recently and are in danger of remapping based on aerial images/memory are worth keeping.

For example "demolished:building=yes" with note="destroyed on 2019-06-10, confirmed by a ground survey". To protect from remapping from aerial images. This is not applicable here as this chool was known to be gone in 2009 and was added by import, not a human.

"historic poi that used to exist" - such objects are of interest to osm.wiki/Open_Historical_Map not OSM

And I mentioned it because you asked "Are you planning a huge deletion of all label nodes ?"

68248211

The discussion was about "IIRC I proposed (as it was an edit bordering on automatic one) deletion of nodes for lower levels of administrative boundaries in Poland." and was not about this edit.

Thanks!

In my case I am editing without verification only for notes left by active mappers or when there is provided sources confirming report.

Notes left by anonymous/newbie users are often misleading, inaccurate or confusing.

This mentioned discussion was on https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=23 ended in osm.wiki/w/index.php?title=WikiProject_Poland/Podzia%C5%82_administracyjny&diff=1548034&oldid=1413567 and it is happened on https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=679376

I mentioned discussion (not vote) because it is mandatory for automatic edits - see osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct#Document_and_discuss_your_plans

> Are you planning a huge deletion of all label nodes ?

No. Though I recently deleted country node for Poland. IIRC I proposed (as it was an edit bordering on automatic one) deletion of nodes for lower levels of administrative boundaries in Poland. I am not remembering what was outcome of this discussion.

> Sorry for all these questions

No problem at all.

> your are suggesting that all other 219 country labels + hundreds of states in OSM are wrong and should be deleted? Because they are not mappable objects and using area is preferable ?

Yes.

68248211

And to answer

> Hi, why did you delete this node ?

Because labels are not mappable objects and mapping country as area is preferable

Also placement of this nodes is optimized for specific map styles, making them form of tagging for the renderer.
