Hello Mazda05, When you revert a changeset, could you please mention the number(s) of the changeset(s) which you are reverting?
| 129864925 | > get the actual mobile phone or landline numbers for each branch so it will be 1-relevant and 2-world-wide reachable This would be the best outcome. > maybe I can go and ask for mobile phone numbers or at least get the landline numbers Maybe if you're lucky they have an index of their phone numbers of each branch and maybe they're willing to share it. In that case you can decide with other local mappers if that's good enough to "import", meaning to tag it without visiting or calling all branches for confirmation.
> Thank you for your excellent explanations, good talk to you sir. My pleasure. I'm always open for a constructive discussion on how to improve OSM data :) |
That's interesting. I had no idea. I would say that if the phone number is relevant for business and logistics on a local level, then the tag is valid enough. I removed it because I had the impression that it would direct you to a national call center where employees have no idea of what's going on at individual branches, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. With that said, would you like me to put the phone tag back onto the post offices?
Hi LockOnGuy. Thank you for the feedback and input. "phone:IQ=5512" sounds like an interesting idea, although I am concerned that: 1) This is the phone number of the brand. With this number you will not be connected to an employee at a specific location. On the US Slack I have already heard some reluctance when it comes to tagging all possible "brand:*=*" tags, and while this is not the USA, we can still consider the argument against adding all these brand details. 2) "phone:IQ=*" and similar are currently undocumented. We can document it, of course, but I doubt it will get much attention from users and may not be worth the effort even if we manage to promote it a bit.
You're very welcome. I'm well aware of the remaining parts that need attention. I hope I can make time for it, but it's one thing in a long list of OSM objects to clean up.

Dear okolobasik, I reverted your changeset in changeset/129865934 because the Ukrainian OSM community urges us not to edit the map of Ukraine during the war there (see osm.wiki/RU:Russian–Ukrainian_war). Please refrain from mapping in Ukraine for the time being. I also ask you to write more informative changeset comments. Please have a look at osm.wiki/RU:Good_changeset_comments for the relevant documentation.

Thank you for your insights, Minh. I agree that it would be nice if people would come to a conclusion that is not based on outdated documentation. Slightly off-topic but maybe still interesting: the Dutch community recently discussed addr:street tags with abbreviated names. The preference at https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/addr-street-en-afkortingen-name-of-official-name-volgen-poll/5928/ seems to be leaning towards addr:street tags that match the official names of streets.

I would love to see the documentation that hoserab uses to dictate guidelines to others.

Mvg,

P.p.s. I have restored the addr:country tags outside Crimea that I accidentally deleted here.
Update: I had accidentally updated 2 multipolygons together with my edits in Crimea. I hadn't downloaded the members, so JOSM didn't show me the correct bbox. Oops
sorry for the big Bbox. I was editing all addr:country=Россия and I edited the cluster in Crimea together with another area. JOSM only loaded the data in Crimea for me, so I think I overlooked some large relation.

Hi watmildon. Thank you very much for the help here. All those name=* tags looked very much out of place.
Dear Endeeaich, I have reverted your changesets 128316503, 128350817 and 128343070 in changesets 129014379, 129014409 and 129014423. The reason is that you copied and pasted building areas from a single example without considering the actual geometries of the buildings, which is considered bad practice. You can have a look at osm.wiki/Roof_modelling for some suggestions on how to map buildings acccurately and in more detail. Best regards, Casper

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap! I took a moment to review your changeset here, and while your edit to the map looks good overall, it would be helpful if you could explain briefly in a changeset comment what you did here. A simple comment like "Added a building" would be sufficient. You can read more about it on this Wiki page: osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments I also recommend that you make your buildings rectangular by selecting them and pressing Q. You can find more shortcuts to improve your mapping at osm.wiki/ID/Shortcuts Happy mapping and best regards, Casper
