I'm afraid you misinterpreted the instructions.

You retagged an area and tag it as place=village
The original tagging was correct !

The idea is that you tag the mapped area as landuse=residential and add a separate node and tag it as place=village or place=hamlet.
Check the instructions please.

Objects without a roof (shadow on both the in-and outside or no shadow at all) are not to be mapped as a building.
When an object shows no clear proof of human activity, paths, yards around a building and a shadow, it is most of the time no building.
