If you come across a tag you don't understand, click the info icon (the "i" icon) to the right of the tag, and the meaning of the tag and the link to the tag's OSM Wiki article will show up underneath the tag.

In the future, please modify existing map elements instead of deleting them and redrawing them anew, and don't remove map elements you don't need or don't like.

See the OSMCha link of this changeset at the bottom of this comment to see which map elements you added, modified, or deleted. (You may have to login to OSMCha with your OSM account to visit the link.)

Please don't delete sections of road with valid lane guidance (lanes= and turn:lanes= tagging) such as what you deleted here: way/139502507/history (This section of road was tagged with turn:lanes=left|left|through denoting that the left two lanes are left turn lanes turning left onto North Franklin Street, and the rightmost lane is a through lane going straight onto Shoppers Way). You could've checked the way's tags and clicked on the info icon (the "i" button) to the right of the lanes= tag or the turn:lanes= tag at the bottom of the left-hand "Edit Feature" panel underneath "Tags" in iD if you didn't know what those tags mean. Before making changes to map features based on aerial imagery or local knowledge, check their editing history, changeset comments, tags, and source tags (if there is one). Previous editors may have valuable insights to offer on why things are currently tagged the way they are.

I see that you deleted sections of a service road running between the parking lot and the Christiansburg Marketplace building (such as what you deleted here: way/1269983133/history, way/1269983167/history, way/1269983164/history, way/1137167092/history), and redrew the service road as a single way. Please don't remove map elements you don't need or don't like. It's known that not everything is needed by everyone, but you should not remove map elements that someone else added.

Also, I see that you merged sections of roads with valid lane counts and guidance (lanes and turn:lanes tagging) with their adjoining ways (roads). The lanes= tag specifies the total number of lanes on a road. If the number of lanes changes, it is necessary to split the OSM way as soon as a new lane has started (regardles of width) or a lane has finished disappearing (usually a merge with another lane). For the unclassified road ways formerly named "Shoppers Way" that you merged in this changeset (way/1108927079/history and way/1108927075/history), those were two seperate connected ways with different lanes= tagging. The road from North Franklin Street to Market Street Northeast begins as one lane starting at North Franklin Street and when it meets with the road link coming from westbound/northbound North Franklin Street, the road becomes two lanes, and the lanes= tag on those unclassified road ways denote that.

Please don't delete existing roads and redraw them anew. Looking at this changeset's edits on OSMCha, I see that you deleted several service roads and redrew them as parking aisles when you could've just retagged the service roads you deleted in this changeset to highway=service + service=parking_aisle. It's against good practice on OSM to delete existing map elements and redraw them from scratch. Please just modify the geometry or tagging of the existing roads or other map elements.

What was the purpose of this changeset? I see that you deleted some parking areas and redrew the entire parking area around Olive Garden in this changeset. (I'm not trying to say it's bad. I'm mostly just curious.) Also, I see that you deleted existing parking aisles and redrew them anew in this changeset. Please don't delete existing roads and redraw them anew. It's better to just modify the geometry of the existing roads. Please take a few steps to help preserve the history on OSM.

I was going to put those comments in one single comment, but when I clicked the "Post Comment" button on OSMCha, it was unable to post my long comment and an error message popped up saying "It was not possible to post your comment." So I ended up putting sections of my long comment into seperate comments so it could be posted. It seems like OSMCha has a limit on the length of changeset discussion comments, while the OSM website seems to have no limit on the length of changeset discussion comments. But I don't know and I hope to find that out soon.

It's important to not remove map elements that you don't need or don't like. It's known that not everything is needed by everyone, but you should not work the other way around and remove map details that someone else added. The original mapper or previous mappers may have a better insight as to why they're mapped the way they are.

What was the purpose of this changeset? It looks like you adjusted an existing parking area and deleted some parking areas, then redrew the entire parking area around IHOP. (I'm not trying to say it's bad. I'm mostly just curious.)

Also, I can see that you deleted a parking aisle in this changeset (way/202493099/history) and redrew the parking aisle within the parking area. Please don't delete existing roads and redraw them from scratch. Please just modify the geometry or tagging of the existing roads. This helps preserve the history on OSM.

To split a way in the iD editor, click on the way, right-click on one of the nodes of the way where you would like to split the way, click on the scissors icon (the Split option), and it splits the way. You can also split a way by clicking on one of the nodes on the way and then pressing X on your keyboard to split the way.

Please see the OSMCha link of this changeset below to see which map elements you added, modified, or deleted (You may have to log in to OSMCha with your OSM account to see it).

Please just modify the existing roads by adjusting their geometry or changing its tags instead of deleting them and redrawing them anew. For the service road you deleted in this changeset (way/661298784/history), you could've just split the road at the point where the road ends. For the parking aisle you deleted in this changeset (way/661300344/history), you could've just split the way at the point where it intersects with a service road (way/661298783) and retag the section of the parking aisle west of the service road as highway=service.

Why did you tag this road link as oneway=no? I can clearly see in late-2024/early-2025 San Juan County Orthoimagery that this road link is clearly one-way.

This road would probably be better tagged as highway=service instead of highway=unclassified.

Additionally, I can clearly see that the carriageways of this divided road are one-way roads in both 2024 Bing imagery and 2025 Esri imagery, so I don't see a reason to tag those valid one-way roads as oneway=no.

Can you explain why you tagged this valid one-way road as not one-way? I can clearly see in aerial imagery that it's a dual carriageway and the carriageways are one-way roads.
