The wiki page clearly specifies that the link starts where the regulation commences and ends "Besides its use for on/off ramps, motorway_link is also used for the slip roads/ramps into and out of motorway service areas/rest areas. In this case the motorway_link should go from the motorway towards the services as far as motorway regulations (for example no pedestrians) apply. In the UK, this is indicated by a sign. Similarly the exit road from the services should be a motorway_link from the point where motorway regulations commence.

A highway which is not part of a major route, but nevertheless forming a link in the national route network. In developed countries it normally has 2 lanes and the traffic for both directions is usually separated by a central line on the road. In areas with worse infrastructure road quality may be far worse. Des Voeux Road Central (both bounds) matches this description perfectly. It is not part of the trunk road network but it is an important link throughout the Central area. However in westbound this link is open for franchised buses only, and it is an very important link for buses going from Wan Chai to Sheung Wan. |
