hi, do you know if there are any 🚳🚷 signs along here? because sometimes (e.g. the Waikato Expressway) you can cycle/walk along it in spite of it being a motorway

i have no idea what this changeset did

hi, you tagged this small part of Wairere Drive as a "motorway". Motorway means restricted access, generally characterized by no at-grade intersections, no 🚷🚳, and/or ramp signals.

Has this part of Wairere Drive changed, because last time I was there I think it was just a normal 80km/h road. similar to the Albany Expressway in Auckland. In which case it should be tagged as highway=primary, not motorway

Hi @woodpeck, I would welcome further discussion on this topic, where do you suggest that could take place?

do you think shop=outpost would be appropriate? the problem is you then can't tag it as shop=supermarket...

I'm not sure what you mean by "you appear to be using OSM to try to advance an agenda" - I would like to correct an error on the map that is wrong according to all levels of the New Zealand government and on-the-ground signage... i don't see how that is an "agenda", perhaps you could explain what you meant?

Your arguments (1) and (3) reiterate that Taupō is the current and only official name, and the on-the-ground name. You want to use the wrong name in OSM, and your only argument for using the wrong name is that "the most common signage in English (for both commercial businesses and (to a lesser extend) traffic signs) remains 'Taupo'". This statement is partially wrong, very disputable and also rapidly changing,,

Your claim that the old name (Taupo) is still the most common on road signs is also very wrong. All road signs now say 'Taupō'. There are no road signs left with the old name of 'Taupo', except those that were forgotten by the council, and the street signs that were physically vandalized by racists (see https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/wellington/123897512/low-iq-vandalism-kpiti-signs-once-again-targetted-by-macron-meddler for another example), which is sadly very similar to what you're doing on OSM...

hi @ponamu_nz, You said that the name "should reflect OTG ("on the ground") reality" - Taupō is the more common name, and is used in nearly all official government signage on the ground, both from central and local government. Many local businesses have also updated their signage, while others haven't (yet).

you said "[...] the English-language spelling is not [Taupō] (as the English alphabet does not contain "ō".)" - Taupō is a name in the Te Reo Māori language, not an English word. When a Te Reo Māori name is used in English, it should be written in the only correct way, which is 'Taupō' in this case.

@woodpeck - the official & only name of the town in English is Taupō, with the macron over the ō. This is the name used by the local government (the Taupō District Council) and central government. This is also the name used in all signage including official government road signs.

This was officially recognized in 2019, and since then, the usage of "Taupo" (without the macron) is being phased out & is no longer correct. see https://tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/over-800-m-ori-place-names-made-official.

This user and a few others continually change place names with macrons like "Taupō" back to "Taupo" and do not engage when comments are left on their changesets

I've undone this changeset. If you continue to vandalize the map you will receive a user block from the OSMF Data Working Group

hmm yes I think I'm wrong, should've researched this properly ... i was going off an old-ish paper map which has "Wainui" printed over where Milldale is ... but as you said, it seems like Wainui is actually the whole area centred on that hamlet. I've undone the change, thanks for checking this !

yea this makes more sense than neighbourhood. agreed that shifting the coastline + mapping as piers would be the best - but it gets complicated in wynyard quarter - how much of the suburb do you call a wharf? between parts of Jellicoe street and the promenade near VEC it's all built on piles...

nice work! i would suggest using `building=roof` in some cases instead of `amenity=shelter` & `building=yes` but that's pretty trivial 🤷‍♀️

fyi i've made some minor changes to nearby features that you didn't touch: changeset/95915154

cool i've added it

94757272

i think way/843363858 should still be oneway=alternating? it has a one-lane-bridge sign where the 2 lanes+median+cyclelanes go down to 1 lane that's barely wider than a driveway

sorry, thanks for fixing that!

You also removed `highway=pedestrian` from the John Hood Plaza which I've reverted too. See highway=pedestrian for more info on how plazas/squares are mapped.

94306997

Hi, you removed the `building=yes` tag from the interim sports centre. Since it is a building, that tag should remain. I've added it back.

94136273

hmm not sure if place=neighbourhood was the right tag...

oops, sorry 👍

hi, yes the two rain shelters you changed should not have social_facility=shelter, but I think the Wellington Night Shelter _should_ have that tag (way/261472341) - unless I've misunderstood something?
