I have mapped little bits near my house and on various trips to places. Even if someone else maps a place we go before I often can add little bit more of make corrections.
I would do more if I had a printer to print out OSM maps before going some where so know if worth recording road names. Or a device could load OSM maps into. I need to get a good recommendation on such a device especially if it is a sat-nav can use in the car.
btw If anyone who contributes to OSM wants a Kingston 4GB MicroSD (HB class6) card for any device it does not need to be one you use for OSM but better if is then message me and I will post it to you. It comes with an SD adaptor. My GT-31 only takes SD cards up to 2GB which is more than enough for many many tracks. [TAKEN]
Getting a new working printer will probably come first, but I need to find a printer that works well with Gnu/Linux, hopefully with open drivers that supports all printer functions.. Also I should get a new camera as my present one has given up on being able to give up it photos easily. Hopefully one with Geo tagging built in.
A camera for tagging road signs if probably way forward as often find I can't read my own handwriting on notes when get back. I am often with my wife and have learnt not to let noting street names slow me down too much or even worse make too many detours to get tracks for OSM to detriment of our trips away. 'I will just be a moment...' while I detour up some ginnel.
Collecting OSM tracks does mean that taking the wrong direction can now have a silver lining of extra tracks. But if I got a SatNav based on OSM one would only stick to OSM mapped routes. Maybe could use it to direct one down unmapped routes e.g. when hit a roundabout follow the exit not shown on OSM.

Hi there, I use my digital camera and a Garmin eTrex for mapping - fits on my handlebars, does routing, and shows OSM on the screen. If you're looking for a recommendation of models to buy here is mine: http://www.gravitystorm.co.uk/shine/gps-recommendations
I don't have any recommendations for car sat navs though, I don't have any experience with them.
