I discovered OSM because my bicycle speedometer got a flat battery.

Instead of buying a new battery, I thought I would try to download some kind of GPS speedometer/trip computer for my new GPS-enabled PDA. Instead I discovered GPS tracking software and OSM. Since then I have been mapping every street I can find between my home and place of work, plus anywhere else I happen to roam. Already my wife fears she will become an OSM widow.

Finally i got around to trying the editing part for me first capturing.

Tried the online editor but felt i was missing some important features, so tried JOSM and wow what a difference.
At first i needed some training and getting used to the program, but after a short while i ended up liking the way it worked for me.
Also the fact that it's a cross platform program makes it even more appealing to me and my "I hate windows problem" witch to me is not a problem at all :).

I've during today put in all the changes I've mapped since my first post, it was fairly easy after playing around with JOSM a bit.

Next on my todo list:
More mapping and perhaps helping out others if they need help inserting some of the map data they have collected :)

JOSM's YWMS plugin currently only works in Firefox 2. So if you for example use Debian Lenny and it's got Firefox 3 in the repositories you are screwed. This is how I fixed it.

Note: This might create a mess if you have Firefox 3 installed and use it. I switched to Opera so I don't care. :)

Download the latest http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Put it somewhere (for example: ~/projects/openstreetmap/firefox
tar xfvz firefox-2.0.0.15.tar.gz

Now start JOSM, go to the YWMS plugin's settings and set the path to
/home/you/kram/projects/openstreetmap/firefox/firefox
Click the create button for the profile and follow the instructions.

Just started to add my street in my neighborhood. Getting familiar with the system. In fact, my whole neighborhood is missing. Did it manually and will see the result when activated on Thursday. Will eventually add whole neighborhood with gps traces. Got to find device.

Also neues "Futter" für OSM.
