How did you determine the road classification?

For our reference, the OSM Israel wiki page says:

Inter-city Roads

* First rule for numbered roads: The category is determined by the color of the sign, not by the number of digits!

* Different sections with the same road number can have different categories.

* Speed limits stated below are the defaults by law, though can be altered in a specific road section by a "special speed limit" sign.

In this edit, among other things, you have created a "natural=bay" relation for the Gulf of Aqaba.

According to
natural=bay, "place=sea" is appropriate for gulfs and very large bays.

The wiki also states that relations are not appropriate for both "natural=bay" and "place=sea". The recommendation is to add the "place=sea" to a node near the center of the marine water body.

It is unclear which entry in which wiki was behind the change of Mitzpe Ramon from place=city to place=town.

The note tag explicitly says:

Clearly one of "the largest settlements within a territory", as defined by the OSM wiki place=city Please keep its place=city tag.

The note tag is used for communication between mappers.

In this changeset you have changed way/209079640 (now way/567468238) from service to cycleway. I assume this was done to capture access restrictions.

The physical road is still a service road. In addition, there is no physical barrier at the entrance and the sign discouraging the use of road is not specific to motor vehicles.

Therefore, IMO, a more accurate tagging would be highway=service with access=discouraged.

I appreciate the sensible approach you took in changeset/64231886. I ask that when you find the next error, please correct it rather than remove the area. At the end of the day, we all want OSM to be the best mapping source in Israel

Importing the IDF data, with its errors, has a significant value for OSM users and hikers in particular. As you probably know, Civilians are required to get IDF authorization prior to entering its training areas. Until this import there was no free source for this mapping information. I agree that the IDF data has issues. I have corrected such error myself.

I claim that there is a training area there. The de-facto eastern boundary may be different than the IDF data.

You may wish to correct such an error by mapping the actual boundary. On the other side, removing the training_area tagging is incorrect and degrades the correctness of the map.

I do not understand if you claim that the boundaries of the training area outside the air-force base are incorrect, or that there is no such training area.

This is not mapping of the base.

This is the training area, as provided by the IDF.

Military training areas have legal implications in Israel.
In this edit you have removed the military training area tags, which can be dangerous to people.

What is the reason and source for this change?

Because of the severe safety implications of this change, I'll revert this change until it is clear that is not a military training area any more.
