That doesn't mean that the whole path should be mapped as underground (layer=-1 means pretty much the same as something directly underground; something on the surface is the implicit level=0).
The correct solution will be to cut the sidewalk at the points where it intersects the particular building and add covered=yes to that part of the sidewalk that is under the roof; in addition, that part of the building (but not the whole building) that overhangs the sidewalk should be tagged as layer=1.

Indeed, and it's really useful to see them directly when editing in iD. Just open Background settings to the right, click three dots near "Custom" and enter https://nt0.napr.gov.ge/NGCache?x= {x}&y= {y}&z= {z}&l= ORTHO_GEORGIA_4 but without the spaces after = symbols. These's also a note about acceptability of using this imagery at osm.wiki/WikiProject_Georgia_Abkhazia_South-Ossetia .

And yes, there is indeed a small driveway that branches off a bit to the east of the main intersection and continues past the gates into private territory.

Note that barrier=wall + area=yes means that the whole area is a solid wall; this combination is used to map some really thick walls, like city walls. To map a wall around a plot, just use barrier=wall without area=yes.

Also, may I inquire what are the approximate borders of Kaklebi settlement? It's not the first time that I encounter this name, but I was unable to find any information on its extent and relation to the Bagebi settlement.
