I must say that this sentence: "For artificial waterways created for carrying useful water or for transport consider using waterway=canal." confused me, because it is translated to czech as "For very wide artificial ..."

Now I understand it. But marking it as waterway=drain is still valid.

Please not mark levadas as canals. Use waterway=drain instead (osm.wiki/Cs:Tag:waterway%3Ddrain). The reality is closed to drain than canal (according to wiki).
