Check out usgs imagery. It is a lot more reliable. I've never been able to get yahoo to work. It is just one of those things that may not work no matter what you try. It works good here in calif.

Check out osmand. It supports adding pois directly.

Open up potlatch and compair data to aerial maps to see how it should line up.

For playgrounds, usually try to use an area if you have it. It can be a little less creepy if trace from ariel photos like yahoo.

For the fence, looks like a node with some type of barrier would work. If the fence is longer you can draw it out with a way.

If you used a gps device, you can open your gpx file in potlatch and add them there.

At least on my Motorola Droid, there is an option to turn off or turn on the pois. Not sure if this is the same on yours. I'm not a developer, but I think they are looking for help in translating

The best way to go about it is just to jump in. Reference the map features page on the wiki and try to copy what other people have done in the area. We all have to start somewhere. Start small with some easier features and then work your way up.

I have been using My Tracks. It works great to save gpx files and then load directly into potlatch or josm.
