Palazzo Albicini was built between the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries. The building was initially owned by the Ordelaffi, a powerful Forlì family, until the first decades of the Fifteenth Century, when they moved their home to the Town Hall, moving the center of gravity of Forlì's political life from Piazza del Duomo to Campo dell'Abate (now Piazza Saffi ).

A plaque commemorates the visit of Dante Alighieri who returning from Rome, unable to go to Florence, between 1307 and 1308, found refuge in the court of Scarpetta Ordelaffi. Centuries later Giosuè Carducci also stayed in the palace, a guest of the Marquis Albicini.
