"“west lion” and “east lion” are colonial names for these mountains. locals call them the “two sisters” based on the story of a peace treaty between the squamish and haida nations. the legend is about two daughters of the squamish nation who had their father, the chief, invite people from haida to a peaceful supper in the midst of an on going war between the two nations. the haida people brought their families in a feast of great peace and it solidified a strong bond that ended the war. the sagalie tyee (the name for the creator in squamish legends) immortalized the two sisters as the mountain peaks we see today in commemoration of their feast that ended the war. "
