The park opens to the public on Saturday November 1, 2025 and has had some limited opportunities for certain members of the public ahead of the official opening. Yes, locked=yes should be removed and replaced with the opening hours for the preliminary operating season.

Hello Woodpeck, The archaeological (Node ID: 12892781186) is rock shelter site below a very large glacial erratic boulder where materials were recently found in the soil substrate that date back approximately 7,000 years. An unsanctioned popular trail locally called "Mischief" travels near the site as it goes between the very large glacial erratic boulder and another smaller boulder. In addition, the glacial erratic boulder has been called the "Barge Rock" by the rock climbing community as apart of the "Around the Squaw" group of rock climbing crags. Information about this site has been provided to members of the local community as apart of the land use planning process for this area and is mentioned in the public "Shannon Basin Visitor Use Management Project" meeting notes. At the start of this year, the local mountain bike trail advocacy association was tasked with upgrading and developing a new section of trail North of this trail, hence the "Old Mischief" and "New Mischief" trail names in this area. This works included public volunteer trail building events. In addition, the local rock climbing advocacy association was tasked with deactivating the sport climbing route on the boulder. Both local organizations provided brief updates to their membership regarding the works. It is my understanding that the government plans to install signage in the area to advise of the cultural significance of the area and to discourage rock climbing and bouldering on the glacial erratics and to discourage use of the trail. In addition, the government may develop first of its kind public access restrictions in this general area. I do not normally add archaeological sites to OpenStreetMap but since this site in particular is unique in that it has pre-existing use, is known to members of the community, will have signage, and has played an influential role in the land use planning is why I decided that it was worth adding to OpenStreetMap. If the community consensus or Data Working Group determine that archaeological sites should not be mapped then I would not be against it. I would just ask that guidelines for archaeological sites be further clarified on the OpenStreetMap wiki page for historic=archaeological_site. Please let me know if you require further clarification. Be advised that this is similar to a previous discussion I had with the Data Working Group (user: Glassman) in July 2024 via private message ("Archaeological Sites in BC"). Thank you, eerib

Hello woodpeck, "ref:borden" is in reference to the Borden System, a Canadian system of uniquely identifying archaeological sites. The first four letters reference a grid cell and the trailing numbers are specific to a certain site within that grid cell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borden_System There is no public database source for archaeological sites in Canada. Instead, one can sometimes find the details on in-person signage, books, research papers, or land use planning documents. Hope this helps! eerib

I have reverted the name change of this road to the officially named and signed version. I know some people call this section of road "Barnet Highway" informally. It would be better to use the loc_name tag instead to cover this informal use.
|
I have added details for this trail and others in the Sootip Peak region in changeset/169134453.

Would you be able to provide a list of the legal public mtb trails that are missing?
|
A number of applications use portions of the metadata in the their render of the trail. AllTrails, Gaia, and OnX are apart of the OpenStreetMap Trails Working Group and use the developed guidelines in rendering of trails. Particularly for Gaia they render unsanctioned status and IMBA rating.

You're welcome to create a discussion topic on the OpenStreetMap Community Forum regarding trails to get community feedback. You're also welcome to propose a new policy and tag that would introduce the ability to hide trails. https://community.openstreetmap.org Rationale for OpenStreetMap's policy regarding trails has been provided to you several times so it's not just "how it is". Additional explanations have also been provided in various changeset discussions with yourself and other mountain bike users over the past week. osm.wiki/Why_can%27t_I_delete_this_trail%3F You've had your say but you don't necessarily get to have your way. You need to reach out to the wider OpenStreetMap community and get consensus if you want to change something with regards to OpenStreetMap's policies.

Thank you for pointing this out. I've added metadata for the trail in changeset #169083272. I've added the name of the trail, difficulty ratings, marked the trail as unsanctioned, and added a description. The trail looks to be within Whistler's Controlled Recreation Area and therefore may have a legal access restriction. I am not up to date on the legal restrictions of the CRA and therefore did not add a legal access restriction.
