I prioritized connections to neighboring cities, speed limits, and minimizing adjacent roads of the same class in making changes to Cudahy's road hierarchy. This is why Clara Street and Santa Ana Street (east of Atlantic Avenue) are tertiary roads, while Santa Ana Street (west of Atlantic Avenue) is a secondary road and I downgraded Elizabeth Street to residential.

While Santa Ana Street east of Atlantic Avenue looks like a tertiary stub, I think it's important to have it marked as tertiary to reflect its higher speed limit (30 mph) and connecting a city park to a primary road & a secondary road.

Main Street in downtown Los Angeles, that is.

osm.wiki/California/2022_Highway_Classification_Guidelines#Urban_expressways These guidelines recommend tagging the westernmost portion of CA 90, between CA 1 (Lincoln Boulevard) and Mindanao Way, as "Trunk + expressway=yes" because that segment "[c]onnects Marina del Rey to freeway network." Trunk roads don't necessarily have to connect with other trunk roads or motorways.

I also removed the name and ref tag from a primary_link because it was erroneously tagged

Now that I noticed you also retagged the Marina Expressway as highway=primary, the tagging of these ways (13374200, 1302677241, 123561792, 398203285, 596884162, 596884160, 398203300, & 403844704) should also be reverted to what they were previously, highway=trunk or highway=trunk_link.

Additionally, the names of the ways listed in my previous comment and this comment should be reverted to what they were before your edits.

Hello, this is in regard to ways 149009289, 27957694, 1456823420, 1456823421, 1420834778, 1076071603, 405301763, 405301759, 149009278, 405301754, & 1051244296.

The highway=* tagging on these ways should be reverted to highway=motorway and (where appropriate) highway=motorway_link. Additionally, access_control=* tags should be removed, as highway=motorway tags make access_control=* tags redundant. These ways represent the eastern terminus of the Marina Freeway and they should be tagged as motorways all the way to and from Slauson Boulevard. See the tagging of the western terminus of the Marina Freeway as an example of how to do it.

I also reclassified the eastbound segment of Olympic Boulevard, between 10th Street and 11 Street, to highway=primary match the tagging of the corresponding westbound segment of Olympic Boulevard

While true that those segments intersect with one service road, that service road begins and ends at the segments in question and is for accessing a small Caltrans yard in the motorway median; the other connections are with surface roads or motorway links.

These segments are signed as freeways. The southbound segment has a sign reading "California - END FWY" at the Del Mar Boulevard bridge, indicating the southbound freeway ends at California Avenue. Its corresponding northbound segment branches northwest from from Pasadena Avenue and is signed as a freeway entrance. It's because of those signs on both carriageways that the previous tagging as highway=motorway is correct and should be returned to, along with the name "Long Beach Freeway", as that's how it is known in the region.

In my eyes, these segments meet the California highway classification guidelines (osm.wiki/California/2022_Highway_Classification_Guidelines#Motorway) for tagging as a motorway, not an expressway.

Hi, this is regarding ways 405356768, 729774079, 970289554, 1122295250, 167078563, & 1002571690.

First, the highway=* tags for these ways should be reverted to highway=motorway. highway=motorway best reflects their role in the road network and design. Tagging these as highway=primary causes issues with routers. Also, the expressway=* tag should be removed, as that's implied by tagging as highway=motorway.

Second, what's your source for changing the name of these ways from "Long Beach Freeway" to "Long Beach Expressway"?

I'd argue that Avalon Blvd. south of Alondra Blvd. & north of Carson St. should remain a primary road based on the presence of three traffic lanes in each direction (six total) in that section; I think the speed limit in most of this section is 40 mph as well. Other sections of Avalon Blvd. outside the aforementioned section could be either primary or secondary. Also, what parallel road are you talking about--San Pedro St.?

With these changes and those in changeset #149114977, the entirety of West Sunset Boulevard has the same name in the City of Los Angeles

Hi Steve, there a number of errors in your edits. These three communities (Universal City, Franklin Canyon, & East Los Angeles) are unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, thus they should be tagged admin_level=9 with boundary=administrative. Additionally, it's best to remove the place= tag, but at the very least they shouldn't be tagged as cities, as you did to East Los Angeles, because they're not legally cities. It's best if you revert the tags you changed to the version before this changeset to fix these errors.

The chief justification for the upgrade to primary: posted speed limits and connections to freeways and the road network

https://maps.assessor.lacounty.gov/m/ That's the website I use. You can click around to bring up each lot's details in the sidebar. Washington east of Fairfax/Culver City limits definitely should use the prefix to differentiate from East Washington addresses. The west prefix reappears in the addresses of lots (seems like most, but not all lots) west of Sawtelle to Del Rey/Culver City limits. I would caution against depending on street signs because I've found errors (e.g., misspellings, using the wrong suffix, etc.) on street signs and I use that county assessor website as my reference point.

As for Washington Blvd. west of Del Rey, you're right. That part doesn't use the same grid numbering system as the rest of Washington Boulevard, so I'll remove the prefix. I have no idea how I missed that.

Best,
CTS

Additional question: why were so many benches added in areas where there are none, such as in the middle of sports pitches or along city streets on private property? Were these supposed to be tagged as something else?

Why did you add a post office node duplicating an already-existing node (358826219) for that post office? They have the same information. Please delete your duplicate node and add any new information or edits to the previously existing post office node (358826219).

I also edited East 26th Street: I downgraded the portion of it inside an active rail yard to a service road, made that portion private, and adjusted its road geometry
