Hello, how you did it looks ok! People tend to use Sidewalk for paths alongside a road, and Footpath for paths not alongside a road. (Sidewalk is really just a special kind of Footpath). And connect them to the roads wherever it is logical for people to walk. Thanks!

Thanks @beemerphile, I marked the bridge as `highway=destroyed` and `destroyed:highway=track`. This along with the `access=no` tag should prevent OSM-based routers from sending cars down the road. (They should not route traffic along `highway=track` anyway).
