I'm a bit confused by the messy protected area situation here and I want to make sure I understand the situation here.

I can see that there are two almost overlapping protected aeas. One which excludes the islands and one which doesn't
e.g
way/1218905794 includes the islands from the LWM and way/600526191 excludes the islands from the HWM

You're saying these two almost overlapping procted areas are deliberate due to one using HWM and the other the LWM?

Het op de kaart zetten van niet meer bestaande spoorwegen is in het algemeen niet geaccepteerd, maar verwijderen zorgt vaak voor pushback. Zie bijvoorbeeld:

OpenStreetMap is een database, de 'standaard' kaart (OSM Carto) is maar een van de mogelijke manieren om deze data weer te geven. Of iets wel of niet op Carto zichtbaar is, is niet relevant. het belangrijkste is dat de data klopt.

Gelieve geen dingen op de kaart zetten die niet meer bestaan. Van way/1422873772 is geen spoor meer te bekennen, dus dan hoort dit ook niet meer op OSM. Als je geintersseerd bent in het in kaart brengen van dit soort historische objecten, dan is https://www.openhistoricalmap.org mogelijk intressant voor jou.
