Where is the elevation from? Neither the quoted source (OS OOC) nor either imagery used have it. Was it, like changeset/36756253 and changeset/36818205 "from a noticeboard that happened to be nearby", or are you just copying from a copyright source?

(hope you don't mind me butting in - occasional Welsh tourist here)

The "name" field in OSM should used for the name - not some description of the legal status. I've never seen a track with a _name_ of "ORPA". Also, ORPA isn't really a legal status as such - the OS just use it on their maps as a catch-all usually where something's on the "list of streets" but not listed as e.g. a byway open to all traffic. Obviously we can't use the OS maps that show ORPAs for legal reasons; we're restricted to what information we can get from signs on the ground or from non-licence-encumbered information from councils (most council maps are encumbered with OS IP and can't be used).

For info, there was a thread on the talk-gb list about this recently:
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2016-February/018466.html

In Potlatch you can press "c" to close the current changeset - the next time you save you'll get prompted for a new comment.

Not sure what happened here - a node called "Ben" got added into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean by mistake. Maybe your iPhone was a bit confused about where it was?

Just mentioning this in case you're wondering why "The Old Rectory" isn't showing up on OSM's "standard" map - the normal way to add buildings is to trace them as a "closed way", add the tag "building=yes" and then add the name.

Here's an example not that far away:

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Obviously we love all sorts of contributions here, but please don't add test data way/103879687 to the live server. Depending on what you want to do, the test server http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org might work for you (but there's no map created from that that I'm aware of).

If you've got a more specific question about anything, you could try asking at the help site https://help.openstreetmap.org/ or on IRC osm.wiki/IRC .

I have no idea what "a major Activity Centre on the London plan" means.

There's a discussion ongoing on the talk-gb list right now https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2016-February/018433.html - maybe explain there what changed and why?

What's the source of the name "Lonesome" on node/3938408784 ?

Looking at the history http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=21662002 , quite a few previous mappers seem convinced that Shepherd's Bush is (in OSM terms) a suburb rather than a town. I'm not a local and therefore don't have a particular view on it, but at the very least I'd suggest mentioning the change on the talk-gb mailing list explain the reasoning behind it. If you can build a concensus behind the change, it's less likely to get changed back later by someone who doesn't agree with it.
Cheers,
Andy (just trying to help, honest!).

Re the change of Westminster from "town" in OSM terms to "city" in this changeset, what I wrote in osm.org/user_blocks/870 still applies. Whilst I personally may not have a view on whether Westminster should be a "city" or a "town" I suspect that other people do, so at the very least I'd suggest mentioning the change on the talk-gb mailing list explain the reasoning behind it. As you can see from the history http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=27365306 , it's flip-flopped between town and city status over the years. If you can build a concensus behind the change, it's less likely to get changed back by someone who doesn't agree with it.
Cheers,
Andy (as ever, just trying to help!).

Hi - I've reverted this in changeset/37141692 (no conflicts - I was prompted to do so to investigate the conflicts BCNorwich might have been getting above).

@Robin653 one thing that was missing from many of the footpaths that you added routes over the top of was the designation - add "designation=public_footpath" for something that has a public footpath sign or "designation=public_bridleway" for something signed as a bridleway. You'll need to look at the sign on the ground of course - for copyright reasons you can't copy from other maps.

What's on the aerial imagery is often irrelevant - the aerial imagery may well date from before the wind turbine was built.

I suspect that it's more likely with node/3804495798/history that the wind turbine was built after the aerial imagery than bult, then demolished, and then the aerial imagery taken, especially as there's another adjacent one also not on the imagery: node/3991278857 .

For info, a "help" question came up recently about whether it makes sense to tag direction on mini-roundabouts in the UK:

Thanks - done.

Are you sure that node/18092173/history is really an anti-clockwise miniroundabout (i.e. the opposite direction to the norm in the UK)?

No, I'm not planning to revert it; just wanted to point out where it was being discussed. See also the thread on the dev list that starts at https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/dev/2016-February/029068.html , and https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/1604 , and a discussion of the technical issues (such as using way_area for rendering) on https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/754 .

Sometimes there's no "best" way to map something, only a "least worst" one that takes into acount all sorts of potential problems.

Just checking - do these shops really exist within Magdalen here? If you're just adding test data, then this isn't the place for it - maybe a test server such as http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/51.75172/-1.24787 would be what you want (though that database isn't rendered anywhere as far as I know).

36213035

Just in case you're not aware, this is being discussed at https://www.reddit.com/r/openstreetmap/comments/450cus/can_somebody_please_fix_the_missing_great_lakes/ .

Ar you sure that node/1057585745/history really is an information=guidepost and not just, say, information=route_marker ?
