Hi, just wondering what the change from 'Grant Thorold' to 'New Clee' is about; was the suburb renamed, or was 'Grant Thorold' never the correct name for the suburb in the first place?
More info in the commit message would have been helpful (yes some people read them!!)

I good maxim I've taken from programming is to write down the 'why' of the change not the 'what', if that makes sense (the actual changes themselves show the 'what').

There's a new Blackpool node now at /node/5527648921 at a new position.
I haven't had a chance to compare the before and after tags.
Sorry for giving you grief on it, it's just frustrating! The OSM project could definitely be better set up to warn about this sort of thing, it's a pity.
Also the history shouldn't be associated with some random ID but should be transferable.
Aside: although it seemed trivial, a changeset comment saying 'add a few houses' would make it clear to others that any other changes are accidental.

Hi James, thanks for adding back Blackpool! It looks like the town was (probably accidentally) deleted in /changeset/55817786
The OSM data model is terrible, so it's very hard to search for a previously deleted version of a place, but in this case, reverting that changeset would have been better as it would've restored the previous location and tags and history.

Can you make proper changeset comments instead of just a dot?
In this instance a major town was deleted and had to be recreated again in /changeset/57799185 which means there is a discontinuity in the history of the town and it's tags :(

No worries thanks for replying! It was Sowton Industrial Estate (as a suburb node) that I was interested in... have since found that it is now at /way/198747131 and /relation/3348171
I think the data model of OSM is to blame here as you can't trace the history of a 'place' as it morphs between being a node/way/relation etc.

Lots of node deletions and way alterations in this changeset with a very short changeset message.
Can you give any further indication of what was being changed here (the why)?

I'd have an issue that this is not an official website for the coach stop so shouldn't be in the 'website' tag which is usually the canonical website for a feature/place.

I guess the only guidelines I could point to would be description=* where it mentions "Longer information can be provided by tagging a link to Wikipedia or other external website using wikipedia=*, wikidata=*, url=* or website=*."
You've already done this with the website=X tags, so a person browsing OSM and interested in staying at the hotel can follow the links to find out how the hotels describe themselves.

Have completed removal of as many of these descriptions as I could find in changeset/58731656

Locations for these suburbs is my best guess based on Wikipedia - feel free to correct.

Good to add all the extra info (particularly full hotel name). I've since removed the description as it was a marketing description and not an objective/informative description suitable for open map data. I see you've made similar edits to other hotels so will remove all other marketing style descriptions unless you've any objections?

Cool. All the gns:* tags give the impression of some external authority. It's not clear that you should remove any of them when you update the node. I still don't know what 'gns' stands for despite looking through lots of archives.

Hi Batareikin, with a big changeset such as this, it would be helpful if you gave more detail on what aspects of the nodes you were changing. The changeset already lists what nodes were changed, but there's no clue as to the motivation for the change, or whether it was tags or positions that were changed. Thx!
