Changeset When Comment
176983976

Reviewed this as good on OSMCha because technically there are no issues with the data you've added. However it's usually not a good idea to make two different changes that far apart in the same changeset. Consider splitting edits that are far apart into different changesets in future.

Thank you for improving the map and welcome to OSM! Hope you enjoy mapping!

Thank you for your contributions to the map, I have marked this changeset bad on OSMCha but note that doesn't mean the contributions aren't appreciated, they very much are, just that more work is needed here.

Love that you mapped the pavements! I've been doing that in my local area as well, Have a look around the Manor area for some examples if you want. When mapping sidewalks make sure to connect them to the road either using `footway=link` with `barrier=kerb` or using crossings with similar `barrier=kerb` tags on either side. I've added these for this section of road so feel free to look at that as an example.

Splitting the terraces up is really good work and makes the information much more useful! When you have many segments like that don't try to align them all by hand, I'm impressed you got it even close to straight using iD like that. You can instead select them all and square them all using the "q" key while they're selected.

Other than that looks all good! Feel free to reply here or message me if you have any questions and best of luck mapping!

Also if you happen to live in the area the app Street Complete is excellent for surveying and we really need more on the ground data in Sheffield!

Heyo! Thank you for adding to the map in Sheffield!

Welcome to OSM and thank you for making the map better!
If you're on android another worthwhile app for surveying is StreetComplete.

Thanks for updating this, I've since mapped all the buildings in this area using Esri.

Yes, I set the offset in JOSM using the existing data to align things as the project instructed contributors not to fix widespread alignment issues.

Bing imagery is not ground truth and there are GPS traces in the area that suggest the road is where the data was.

No worries, glad to hear! Was going a bit insane trying to find out what was wrong.

Thanks for the addition to the map!

Verified this as a good change but note that the tag "name=*" is generally for the signed or established name for a feature, not the general name for it. Unless the area is literally called "site" this name tag should be removed.

TY for adding the paths! Noticed they're not connected to each other and they don't seem to connect to any of the other paths. Is that intentional?

It leaves way/1454696669 entirely disconnected.

Looks good! Just for future reference if you visit a site to confirm info you can list that as "survey" in the sources section for the changeset which is more standardized on OSM even though people will 100% know what "site visit" means. You also don't need to list the sources in the comment if they're listed in the sources tag for the changeset.

Thank you for improving the map! And welcome to OSM! :D

Looks mostly good! Thank you for mapping some addresses in the new development!

Only thing I noticed was construction=footway being changed to construction=detatched which isn't a documented tag for a highway=construction way. What was the goal there?

Looks good aside from this building: way/1256346261
It seems to have gotten smaller and less accurate to the full shape of the building.

Oh also when mapping buildings in iD editor, you can use the "q" key to square them up.

Thank you for helping to improve the map! I'm assuming this is part of a new development hence it not being visible on the satellite imagery?

If possible do you think you'd be able to take some Mapillary and/or Karta View street level imagery around the neibourhood? This helps other mappers verify your changes in the area and we can help map roads and all the other buildings as well.

Cool cool, I've deleted the old area at the moment as now that there's a POI it should mean you're searchable on all the OSM based map applications. You can always upgrade to an area again in the future.

From here I'd recommend adding more tag info to the point you've dropped. Access information is particularly important to add to the map but here are some suggestions for tags you could add:

addr:country=GB, addr:housenumber=*, fee=no, contact:phone=*, contact:email=*, wheelchair=*, amenity=toilets, toilets:wheelchair=*, shop=gift, internet_access=wlan, description=*, ref:wikidata=*

I might also suggest collecting street level imagery through Mapillary or Karta View of the surrounding area as then other mappers will be able to map the location more accurately and support you with mapping.

Best of luck!

Looks like there is still a tree node there so I suspect you just ended up deleting a duplicate node on further inspection. Whatever the case the map is currently correct so no more action needed.

TYSM for your reply and for improving the map!
