just came back from a two week trip to the Allgäu / Germany.
Due to a lot of non-paragliding-weatherconditions there was a lot of spare time for OSM.
Equipment used: a Garmin HCx with 2GB flash with only the OSM based Map on it and as a backup/second data source a simple Royaltec SIRF3-based tracker, both set to a constant sample interval of 5 seconds.
I stored POIs, tracktypes, streetnames and other information into the Garmin-device as waypoints, so I could easily draw OSM data from the GPS-points and the waypoints using JOSM.
I had a laptop with me (offline for two weeks / no wlan anywhere)
and a copy of the OSM data of the area. Uploading the edited OSM-data back
today went without problems.
Some notes about the good things:
* both devices worked fine, were able to easily store the whole GPS-tracks without need to sync them to an external data storage.
* the garmin is quite nice to track and to store information, it works in rain, dirt (pen and paper dont) and darkness, one set of 2Ah batteries will last for more than 12h and it is possible to operate it with one hand. The display got a lot of scratches but i dont mind about this.
Arbeite mich langsam durch meine täglichen GPX-Daten.
I managed to travel on the new M1 J7-8 motorway link / slip road southbound, so although the roadworks continue for a few more months, I've been able to remove the construction tag. The same can't be said of the northbound road, as it's still not been built.
I also updated the J9 sliproads southbound, to reflect the slight changes to this junction too.
I've noticed a number of people put mapping parties, talks about OSM, and even SOTM into the upcoming.org event list. Although these are tagged with "osm" and "openstreetmap", there was no group bringing together the OSM users on the site. So, I've added an "OpenStreetMap" group, which is open to all, and which should contain a list of all OSM events that have been added to the site. Feel free to join the group.
Hello fellow OSM mappers.
I'm proud to say that, with my humble contribution, the area called the Fildern south of the Stuttgart Airport (Germany) has reached a pretty good mapping state now. What's especially nice is that pretty much all the asphalt tracks for agriculture that are so nice for cycling are mapped. vobs has done a lot of this.
This is how the area looks in detail:
-Stetten: Mostly drawn and most names put in by ColinMarquardt. Rest filled in by me.
-Bernhausen: Same as Stetten. Some stuff also done by GeorgL.
-Plattenhardt: This is where I live. It was a white spot when I started in the middle of January. That is, only some of the through streets were there. Now (since beginning of April, actually) it's 100% complete.
-Bonlanden: Same state as Plattenhardt.
-Harthausen: Didn't even have a road connection in January. Now it's 100% complete thanks to Simon Kokolakis drawing the streets and me filling in the names.
-Sielmingen: Mostly done by GeorgL and Plum, some stuff added by me. Now almost complete.
-Neuhausen: Also mostly drawn by Simon Kokolakis. I'm now filling in the names and small roads and footways.
-Wolfschlugen: Same as Neuhausen but I haven't entered any names yet.
-Aichtal (Neuenhaus, Aich, Grötzingen): Work done by different people but not complete yet. Neuenhaus is probably the most complete, AFAICT all that's missing are some street names.
To track the progress and for folks to be able to see where they can help, I have set up a Wiki page for the Landkreis Esslingen. If you work in this area, please track your progress there. I'm quite sure it will become increasingly difficult to see which areas are finished and where there's still work to be done without pages like this.
I have also made a similar page for the Landkreis Göppingen where I'm also mapping when I visit my parents.
Anyway, help is always welcome and it's nice to see that new people have signed up in my area. Given enough hands, we can map everything we want!
Hi,
im Osmarender werden Rivers viel breiter gemalt als in Mapnik.
Kann man das ändern? Der width-Tag wird leider nicht beachtet.
Bleibt also nur die Möglichkeit statt River Canal oder Stream
zu nehmen.....

Yet another set of twisty passages, courts and squares.
The south Side of Fleet Street, and full of lawyers.
The principal gardens and lanes had been previously marked out, but there are a lot of pathways in here linking everything together.
Again the GPS isn't always going to get a lock, so video and making paper maps is the way forward.
It's also an odd place in that nothing is a public right of way, but there is permissive access to everywhere, and remarkably tranquil compared to the bustle of Fleet Street and the Embankment bordering to the north and south.
Anyway, I think I got the lot, there is at least one square that doesn't seem to have a name, the rest is laid out even if not named yet.
There is *NO* way I'm going to list all of the the names of the chamber though.
Mapping all roads of Edenvale.
my JOSM decided to go mad today. it is opening GPX files and all I see is a BLANK!
Did some mapping today of the main roads here, but the GPX's got rejected with "Bad file descriptor - /usr/bin/file -bz /home/osm/gpx/127031.gpx". Seems like the disks are full here or something is broken :/
I still need to do all the bridges here, but that needs a walk and also getting my bicycle repaired. I hope to get those street numbers right, with the recent build of a new road here it's still a little bit confusing, because there are no proper signs here (sic!). Well, I think I will have to live with it...
Derzeit finde ich eine Menge Straßen, die die Zuordnung "unclassified" haben, obwohl es sich um Staatsstraßen und sogar Bundesstraßen handelt.
Wer sich nicht sicher ist, kann hier nachschauen:
osm.wiki/index.php/De:Map_Features

Started mapping the Hegiberg in Winterthur. Was my first mapping and maily used to become familiar with mapping and josm. Unfortunately my GPS turned off unexpectedly somewhere between.
Expect more to come in the future ...
Been adding the courts and squares to the north of Fleet Street.
GPS signal doesn't work too well there, so lots of video recording tied together with locations when a good signal was available.
A tidied up what was there previously, and everything named.

Hello, I just had a look at some streets in London, I know well. I discovered a small mistake there: in Mayfair - Charles Street is not connected South Audley Street and Tilney Street. It just turnes into Waverton. Where the crossing is mapped, there is South Audley Square. I tried to correct it, but I could not cut Charles Street, but I added Red Lion Yard.Could someone with more experience than I do have, please amend this problem?
Some small towns in northern bavaria are only visible by their major roads or crossroads. We will try to change that, beginning with our hometown.
